An index to our range of services
- Adapted Physical Education - Adapted Physical Education is a service provided to students with a specific disability or limiting condition. Moreover, physical activities are modified or changed to meet their unique needs.
- Academic Language Therapy - Academic Language Therapists provide services to students who have not been successful in learning to read through other instructional methods. We provide a multi-sensory approach to reading through visual, auditory and kinesthetic activities.
- Assistive Technology - The Flint Hills Special Education Cooperative (FHSEC) provides assistive technology devices and services to students who need them to access the curriculum. The devices and services to be provided are determined to be necessary by the IEP team and are documented in the IEP.
- Connections Program - Connections programs are designed to assist students in achieving meaningful, productive lives through development of positive school and peer relationships.
- Early Childhood Staff - Staff Photos
- Enrichment Services - dedicated to providing information and resources to educators, parents, students and the community about the specific needs and education of gifted, talented, and creative youth.
- Infant Toddler Services - providing services to children aged birth to and including 2 years of age.
- The Instructional Materials Center (IMC) represents a cooperative institutional effort between Emporia State University and the Flint Hills Special Education Cooperative. It provides services concurrently to Emporia State faculty, staff, graduate students, undergraduate students, and seven school districts in the surrounding Emporia area, including Emporia. Included in this service group are classroom teachers, special education teachers, paraeducators, counselors, other support personnel, and administrators.
- Occupational Therapy is a service provided to students that demonstrate impairment in one of the following categories: developmental or fine motor skills, visual-motor, oral motor, sensory processing or self-care skills that affect a student's ability to benefit from educational services.
Occupational therapists use purposeful goal-directed activities and adapted techniques and/or equipment to improve the child's ability to participate effectively in the school setting. - Paraeducators - Paraeducators work as a team with teachers.
Paras work one on one with special needs students.
Paras also observe and record student behaviors.
Once the students transitions to another school the para usually moves with the special needs student. - Physical Therapy - Physical Therapy is a service provided to students with an identified disability or limiting condition. Therapeutic interventions focus on the treatment of impairments including decreased strength, low endurance, limited range of motion, poor balance or posture, and developmental delay, as well as functional assessment of equipment and environmental adaptations for safe classroom participation.
- School Psychologists and Social Workers - The school Psychologists and Social Workers in the Flint Hills Special Education Cooperative provide support for the social and emotional needs of students. They work with other education staff to help students succeed academically, emotionally and socially.
- Speech / Language Pathology - The mission of the Speech/Language Pathologist is to diagnose and remediate disorders of communication in our students, enabling them to participate more fully in the general education classroom.

- Transition Services - Transition services better prepare students to enter the workplace, go on for further training, become as independent as possible, and contribute to society. They also give students access to services that are necessary for them to be successful with the outcomes they desire and to have services in place before they leave school.
- Visual Impairment - Our mission is to help prepare students who are visually impaired to develop the skills necessary to lead vocationally, personally, and socially satisfying and productive lives.
